Guinea banknote features China-built Kaleta Hydropower Station
(ECNS) - The Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea has introduced a new 20,000-franc banknote bearing the background image of the Kaleta Hydropower Station, the largest cooperative project between China and Guinea, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
Construction of the Kaleta Hydropower Station, undertaken by the China International Water and Electric Corp (CWE), a subsidiary of the China Three Gorges Corporation, began in April 2012.
Twenty-five percent of the project's funding was provided by the Guinean government and the remaining 75 percent through loans offered by the Export-Import Bank of China.
The project will be finished later this month and the first generating unit will be officially put into operation on May 31.
